How many days are there between two dates?
The tool counts every calendar day from the start date to the end date. From January 1 to July 16, 2026 you get exactly 196 days, which reads as 6 months and 15 days. Over the same span it also reports 140 business days: 196 days make 28 whole weeks that each hand over 5 weekdays. That business figure drops Saturdays and Sundays but keeps public holidays, which change from one country to the next.
One convention catches people out: the count skips the start day and keeps the end day. Friday to Monday is 3 days, not 4. If your contract counts both ends, add 1 to the result.
How do you add or subtract from a date?
In add mode, days and weeks are plain arithmetic: January 1, 2026 plus 90 days lands on April 1, 2026, a Wednesday. Type a negative amount to go backwards, so July 16 minus 6 weeks gives June 4.
Months and years follow the calendar, not a fixed length. Add 1 month to January 31 and you get February 28 in a common year, February 29 in a leap year, because February has no 31st. The day is clamped to the last day of the target month, the same rule banks and payroll use for end of month deadlines.

Do leap years ever break the count?
No. Every calculation runs on real calendar dates, so February 29 is counted whenever the span crosses one. Between February 1 and March 1, 2024 the tool returns 29 days; the same window in 2026 returns 28. It never leans on shortcuts like months times 30.4.
How many working days are in a year?
Take 2026 as a worked example. The year runs 365 days and opens on a Thursday, so the single day past 52 full weeks is a weekday. That leaves 104 Saturdays and Sundays and 261 weekdays. Strip out the 11 US federal holidays, all on weekdays in 2026, and 250 working days remain.

The number drifts a little each year: a common year holds 260 or 261 weekdays depending on its starting weekday, and a leap year can reach 262. Two conversions fall straight out of the 2026 figures. At 8 hours a day, 250 working days build a 2,000 hour work year, and a 60,000 salary split across 250 days gives a day rate of exactly 240.00.
